Anna Centenary Library is organizing a series of summer programmes for kids under the banner ‘Kodai Kondattam’ during April and May 2017. As a part of these programmes, Art and Craft classes, a four-day event were started on 04.04.2017 (Tuesday) held between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm at the Children section of Anna Centenary Library.
Ms. Sridevi Baskar, the Coordinator of ‘Kodai Kondattam’/Librarian and Information Officer welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource person cum trainer Ms. Anitha Bannet. The session was started with small introduction about the concept and basics of art and craft by the trainer. She also made clear that the aim, activity to be done, techniques and materials to be used in the programme.
After briefing, the children who assembled at the activity area were segregated as five groups on the basis of age criteria and from each group; one kid was selected to act as leader of the group.
The art of rolling with paper, shaping and gluing paper together to create beautiful pictures, shapes, animals, flowers, greeting cards, etc. by using quilling technique was the activity assigned to the children. To carry out this task, art and craft materials such as charts, scissors, glue, construction papers on various colurs, sketch pens, etc were provided by Anna Centenary Library. Volunteer from organizers and parents’ assisted each group to complete the given activity.
After completion of the activity, the best work was selected and appreciated. Over 50 children including kids from Vidya Sagar, the centre for special education actively took part in the programme.
The intension of the programme was to create interest on art and craft work, to stimulate creativity, to have fun and provide inspiration for craft ideas among the kids.
